“The Gasthaus zu Melchendorf is located in a suburb of Erfurt. Fortunately, a streetcar line (#3) passes next to the hotel, and for two euros will whisk the traveler directly downtown. The Gasthaus features several moderate-sized, but clean, comfortable and quiet rooms on two upper floors of a popular and reasonably-priced neighborhood restaurant. The reception is businesslike and brusque, but the owner and manager both speak good English, and were helpful. The Gasthaus caters - as best we could see - largely to German clientele. Breakfast was superb, and included typical German fare, with a plentiful selection of fresh breads, cold cuts, cheeses, and fruits. Parking is free just outside the door of the Gasthaus. Wifi was available in our rooms. There is no elevator.”
“With a Stadtbahn station adjoining the hotel, access to Erfurt city centre is very easy. It is also a good location for touring Thuringia as the motorway is only a short drive away. The room was large and quiet, even though it overlooked the tram tracks. The food is good and the prices very reasonable. The bar / restaurant seems to be something of a local social centre and often had a lively atmosphere.”
