Milan (Milano) is the heart of Alpine northern Italy and arguably the most important industrial, commercial and design center in Europe, the home of Pirelli tires and Armani suits alike. Milan has the nation's largest gay community and what is reputed to be the world's most beautiful shopping mall: the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. Milan is also home to the world's fourth-largest church and to La Scala, the holiest shrine of the opera world. And finally Milan is where you will find the Vinciano Refectory, site of da Vinci's "Last Supper."
