Just like L.A. draws would-be TV stars, Nashville is a magnet for songwriters and live performers. Though some of them are backing up big-name artists in the Grand Ole Opry or Ryman Auditorium, a lot are playing in dive bars and honky-tonks for tips. It makes for some truly great barhopping, especially in the walkable downtown area. Though Nashville is an "industry" town, it's not snobby to visitors in fact, it's probably more fun if you're not embroiled in the music biz. You can try to catch a glimpse of resident celebs like Little Richard and Keith Urban, or just chill out with a cocktail at your hotel bar, appreciating the house band (whatever its name is). Visit the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Walk of Fame, Willie Nelson & Friends Museum, and Music City Marketplace. Treat yourself to a great meal in one of the trendy 12South neighborhood restaurants or do some shopping in the Eighth Avenue South district.
