“Charming boutique hotel in a renovated old school. Welcoming staff even though they are not available at all times. Do not book with meal included because there is no restaurant on site. This should be clearly stated as it was a pre-prepared meal. Not bad, but more like eating a TV dinner. I would not have booked with dinner if I had known. They said I could go eat elsewhere to eat but I had booked with dinner! Breakfast is simple (ham, cheese, yogurt, fruit, jellies, bread, croissants, coffe and tea). The rooms are well appointed except they do not have a small table for eating and had suggested we eat in the room. Not practical.”

“Hotel Balea is an impressive transformation of an old, traditional primary school into a contemporary, stylish hotel. The pictures on websites don't do it justice and there are lovely touches like old Geography wall maps, blackboard with lists of things to do in the area, an old bench and desk or two, etc. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Welcome and friendliness were first rate. Breakfast copious and excellent. Less than 10 minutes walk to the beach and tiny old port.”

“The town of Gethary was lovely, a lot of restaurant choices and a lovely walk to get to them, just 10 minutes away from Biarritz by car. The room was confortable, and great bathroom facilities, great and comfortable bed. Great staff, but need to improve language skills. (only french)”

“A delightful hotel in a converted school building. The use of ex school furnishings, furniture and fixtures was charming. We loved the way in which the room door numbers were presented (you'll see what I mean when you visit). The staff were all very friendly and helpful, especially the young lady from Bidart! The breakfast was excellent and the dinners reasonable value for money.”
