“Storutjarnir means 'The Great Lakes' and is a kind of dry joke as the two lakes nextdoor to the hotel are relatively small. They create a beautiful view, however, from the dining room and the bedrooms on that side of the hotel. The hotel is excellent as an en route overnight accommodation choice because the Godafoss ( 'Falls of the gods' ) waterfall, the Sprengisandur ( 'Bursting Sand' ) mountain trail through the wilds of central Iceland, the Myvatnssveit ( ' Midge Lake District' ) tourist sight, the Krafla ( 'Crawler' ) volcano and the Dettifoss ( 'Tumbling Falls' ) waterfall are all within easy reach.”
