“We had read various reviews some good and some quite damning. When we arrived the reception was closed but a telephone number was pinned to the door as the receptionist had had to pop out. She arrived within a couple of minutes. After checking in we were shown to our room (Number 20) absolutely wonderful, spotless. The hotel is a former miners hostel (about 200 years old) and is set around a bull ring. (we weren't there for a bull fight!) the restaurant is located across the bull ring and a splendid table d'hote meeal with wine 20 euros for two. Breakfast was in the same restaurant. Almaden is an old mining town and they mined the ore which is used to produce mercury. A very interesting trip round the mines is available most days. the staff couldn't do enough for us. should have stayed another day.”
