“This is not a five star hotel, however just because the paint is peeling in a few palaces it won't detract from a lovely stay. The room was clean and very quiet even though it overlooked the road. The food was very good, and being home cooked very tasty. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and keen to make sure you enjoyed your stay. The location is stunning with a 200' drop behind the hotel with it's own waterfall. Definitely stay here gain.”
“staff were very friendly and helpful. Nice relaxing atmosphere, good breakfast and evening meals”
“A family run affair this has been a lovely place to stay. We had two nights. On arrival the hostess was expecting a party of four due to a stuff up by Booking.com at their end. She took it upon herself to sort it out with one booking being cancelled and fully refunded with no cancellation fee. We arrived quite late (due to late arrival of the ferry from Ireland and a mix up with our car hire agreement) and she made sure we had a bite to eat before retiring for the night. She put us in a family room overlooking the beer garden which gave us a stunning view up the valley in the morning. The hotel is situated about 11ks up the road from Aberystwyth in the village of Ponterwydd. Breakfast was substantial and delicious. We also had our evening meal which again was great .... a delicious home cooked beef stroganoff. The hotel is right on the road but there is no traffic noise whatsoever. It is also situated on the edge of a cliff with a gorgeous waterfall below.”
“Friendly and welcoming staff Amazing location Excellent food at breakfast and the evening meal. Homely feel to the place Good vfm Would like to stay again for all the above reasons and see more of the locality”
“When you book a room in a 17th century hotel, you expect a certain amount of quirkiness and charm which was exactly what we got. The room we had was on the second floor with a low ceiling which was both cosy and comfortable. A large window looked over the car park and road, but noise was never a problem. The bed was comfortable and the room clean and tidy. The shower room, although small, had everything for our stay, and the shower was excellent. Car parking was close (being right by the front door!) and spacious. The view from the garden of the waterfalls below was lovely even though it rained for almost all of our 2 night stay! The breakfast was very good with good quality cereals and juice. The cooked breakfast was superb and the staff and owner extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel is about 15 minutes away from Aberystwyth, but that was not a problem as this is clearly stated in the hotel details. We will stay here again when in the area”
