Financiers and diplomats also need food, drink and entertainment, and this cosmopolitan city of one million is well equipped to oblige. Bars, pubs and restaurants are plentiful, serving traditional Belgian and French fare and the full range of international cuisines, well complemented by the seemingly uncountable regional beers for which the country is famous. Although Brussels didn’t preserve as much of its historic city center as other Belgian cities, some splendid rococo confections, like the Town Hall on the Grand Place/Grote Markt (the cobblestone central square) remain spectacular.
